From the inception of a re-formed club it was recognised that fostering an interest in the game among our youngsters had to be a priority. Giving Capel Juniors an opportunity to participate is vital to building a secure and lasting future for cricket in our village.
We run three coaching groups throughout the year – Infants (school years one and two), Juniors (school years three to six) and Under 15s (school years seven to nine). We do not operate a rigid policy on age but view all players as individuals. If any players wish to be tested in an older group we will review their capabilities and ensure they are safe and have the basic technique to participate at a higher level. Equally, if a child wishes to remain within a lower age group that choice will be respected and supported.
Infant and Junior age groups play in a ‘Kwik Cricket’ format with rubber (wind)ball and plastic bats. Under 15s play with a hard ball both in nets and on the pitch. All equipment is supplied so children can come along and see if they like cricket without any upfront cost on kit and clothing.
We participate in various matches and tournaments against other Kent sides during the summer season. In August 2015 we even played in an exhibition match on the county’s St.Lawrence ground in Canterbury!
