Stand in indoor Skipper Darren Semple lost the toss and Capel were put into bat. Ian Matthews and Bim Gajjar opened the batting with the intention of not losing quick wickets, this plan came to fruition and Ian was first back to the seating area having retired on 25. Bim was then caught for 12 after an almost spectacular caught and bowled was parried to a fielder. Darren hit three sixes in an over to retire on 29. Tom Stronell was bowled for 5 after hitting a straight four, which left Simon Lander and Rocky Grice to up the total with some brilliant running between the wickets. Rocky was out for 10 with a couple of balls to go so Ian returned to continue his innings; finishing on 29 not out, with Simon 14 not out (a great debut indoors for Capel). The Capel total was 107 which left Waterinbury needing just under 9 an over to triumph.

Rocky opened the bowling and after a couple of looseners soon found his line, Bim carried on with the economy and took a wicket in the forth over with a catch off the wall by Darren. Ian then took over the bowling to leave Rocky one over at the end and after 6 overs Waterinbury were 50 for 1.

After Bim’s spell of 1-24 Darren started his spell in tandem with Ian which resulted in a run out and after ten overs Wateringbury were at 97 runs, needing 11 off 2 overs to win.

Normally at that stage you’d expect the opposition to knock off the runs easily but this game was different. Rocky returned to bowl a great over with only 5 runs coming from it which left Darren to bowl the final over with the opposition needing 6 to win.

The first three balls went for 3 runs leaving Waterinbury needing three from three balls. A swing and miss with keeper Tom saving the run left them three from two, panic setting in resulted in a run out leaving three required from the last ball which was hit back at bowler Darren who took a regulation caught and bowled to seal the win.

A great team effort from Capel. Batting, bowling and fielding were all excellent – what an exciting game……
